About Goshen, CT - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!
The town of Goshen was first settled in 1738, and was incorporated just one year later. It began as a farming community but during the American Revolution began a thriving manufacturing industry producing muskets for the war effort. A number of other cottage industries sprang up after the war, among them a pottery built in 1819 by Harvey Brooks and now standing in the Old Sturbridge Village living history museum. Education has also played an important role in Goshen’s history, with the first school being built in 1753 and the prestigious 19th century Goshen Academy opening in 1824. Today the Academy is preserved as one of the buildings in the Goshen Historic District.
In addition to its historical attractions, Goshen draws crowds of visitors each year to the Goshen Fair, held on the fairgrounds that were formerly home to the Connecticut Agricultural Fair. The fair, which is usually held on Labor Day weekend, has animal and other agricultural exhibits as well as live entertainment and truck and tractor pulling contests. Goshen can also boast the Goshen Players, a local theatre troupe which produces several plays per year, including children’s theater productions and themed cabaret nights.
Goshen has a typical New England climate, where snow is on the ground throughout much of the winter and freezing temperatures draw skaters and ice fishermen to local ponds. In the summers temperatures remain mild, and Goshen’s local parks offer plenty of opportunity for fun in the sun. The Goshen Land Trust, a conservation organization, does what it can to ensure that Goshen’s open spaces stay clean and green.
