About Canton, CT - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!
Canton, a small town in Hartford County, Connecticut sits on the banks of the Farmington River and was incorporated in 1806. The 19th century this town, like many in the surrounding area, was supported in large part by the metal industry. In fact, the technique of die casting was developed right in Canton at the Collins Ax Factory by the inventor Elisha Root. The Canton Historical Museum is today housed in one of the buildings formerly occupied by the axe factory, and proudly shows off the town’s heritage with displays of a 19th-century post office, general store, blacksmith and barber shop along with Victorian toys, dolls and clothing, old farm implements and tools and a model railroad.
Collinsville, which is a village in the city of Canton, is made up primarily of buildings originally meant to house workers at the Collins factory. Today the village makes much of its historical charm, as it still very much resembles a turn-of-the-century factory town although today the former factories are instead filled with antique shops, restaurants and art galleries. Collinsville was in fact listed as one of the nation’s “10 Coolest Small Towns” in the September 2007 issue of Budget Magazine.
Canton’s climate, with its mild, pleasant summers and moderately snowy winters, is suitable for year-round outdoor recreation. Among the town’s recreational facilities are the Mills Pond Recreation Area with sports fields, swimming pools and a walking trail and Roaring Brook Nature Center, with its nature trails and bird sanctuary. Collinsville Canoe and Kayak is New England’s largest specialty paddling store.
